2016 Recruit - Chad Allgaier

Chad Allgaier is set to join the 2016-2017 Western Wyoming Community College Men's Soccer team.  Chad is a 2012 graduate from Lehi High in Lehi Utah.

While at Lehi High Chad player soccer for the Pioneers all four years of high school.  In each of his year during high school Allgaier and LHS won their Region regular season.  Chad was a member of the 2010 Lehi High 4A Utah State Champion team.  His final two seasons in high school the LHS advanced deep into the playoffs, finishing in the quarterfinals in 2011 and the state semi-final in 2012.

Chad played club soccer with Arsenal.  He had a great career with ASC but his last season was his best statistically scoring 5 goals in 10 matches.

Allgaier is a versatile player who is comfortable playing defender up to an attacking midfield.  At Western Wyoming we envision Chad being able to help out as a center back or outside defender but think that his biggest help to the team might be as midfielder whether it be a center defensive mid, outside mid or attacking mid.

Chad's preferred style of soccer will fit perfectly in with the Mustang's goal which include pinpoint possession passing and playing organized positional soccer to beat the opposition.

Allgaier was an honor roll student from LHS and should continue to find success in the classroom as he will study Business.  Chad served an LDS mission after high school to Philadelphia Pennsylvania.

Mike Wolken Joins the Mustangs of Western Wyoming

Mike Wolken a defensive and outside player has signed his NJCAA National Letter of Intent to continue his soccer career at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.

Mike played varsity soccer for 3 years at Mountain View High in Orem Utah.  Mike and the Bruins made the 4A Utah State Soccer tournament all 3 years he played for the varsity squad.  His senior year Mike started all but a couple of matches for MVHS as they played deep into the 4A state tournament.  In 2016, MVHS made it to the state semi-final match.  The MVHS defense in 2016 was widely considered one of the best defenses in the state of Utah.  Mike usually played as an outside back for the Bruins.  Wolken amassed one goal, 2 assists and was part of a defense that had 7 shutouts.  After the 2016 season Mike was voted as the Most Versatile Player on the team.

This versatility will come in useful as Mike transitions to the collegiate game.  Western feels that Mike has the skills and experience to play very well as an outside defender and even as an outside midfielder.  Mike has good quickness, great speed and incredible endurance.  All of those traits go hand in hand with an outside defender and an outside midfielder.  Mike does a good job at maintaining his high academic standards along with being a student athlete, so he should fit right into the Mustang Soccer program and traditional very nicely.

Jace Green, head coach for Mountain View High, said many very nice and kind things about Mike.  Coach Green noted that Mike would have been a standout outside midfielder if that is what the team needed this spring.  The MVHS team needed help at outside defender and that is what Mike was able to do to help out the team.

Mike played club soccer for Utah Valley United since the time they were established.  Mike usually played as an outside midfielder for UVU.  We are super excited to have Mike Wolken as part of the WWCC Soccer team.  Congrats Mike!

WWCC Men's Soccer Named a NJCAA Academic Team of the Year

Western Wyoming Community College Men's Soccer team earned a 3.17 GPA for the 2015-2106 Academic School Year.  This 3.17 GPA was the highest GPA in WWCC Men's Soccer history. 

This 3.17 GPA was good enough for WWCC Men's Soccer to be ranked as the 7th highest GPA in the NJCAA, about 170 schools compete in the NJCAA.

This is just another accolade for the 2015-2016 Western Wyoming Men's Soccer team who set countless records on the field as well this past season.  We are very proud of the hard work done by these outstanding young men on and off of the field.  This is the 3rd time in program history that the Men's team has been named a NJCAA Academic Team of the Year.

Calvin Karangwa - Western Wyoming Mustang Soccer Player

 Calvin Karangwa who is originally from Rwanda and recently graduated from Layton Christian Academy has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NJCAA men's soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.

Calvin is a prolific scorer, in the spring 2016 season he scored an average 1.8 goals per match that he played in for the Layton Christian Academy Eagles.  This was the highest goals per match rate for any boy's soccer player in the state of Utah.

Karangwa also led the state of Utah for goals scored in the 2016 spring season.  In 2016, Calvin scored 27 goals for LCA and added more than 10 assists.  Calvin was named 1st Team All State for 2A Utah by the Deseret News and the Standard Examiner All Area 2nd team.

The LCA Eagles helped by Calvin's scoring made it to the 2016 2A Quarterfinals of the Utah State Soccer Championships.  As a junior Calvin tallied 10 goals for LCA and again helped them reach the second round or the Quarterfinals of the 2A Utah State Soccer Championship.

Western is very happy to have Calvin join the Western Wyoming attack.  Western graduated the top three forwards from the 2015 team, Jose Rincon (1st Team All Region IX & signed to play at Waldorf University), Riley Gibson (2nd Team All Region IX and signed to play at Waldorf University) and Jesse Cardenas (1st Team All Region IX).  With the departure of Jose, Riley and Jesse Western will need to find new players to step up into the dependable attacking role.  Western Wyoming has a great tradition of exceptional strikers averaging two forwards being named All Region every year.  Dennis Sellis also led the NJCAA in goals scored (34) and offensive points (79) in 2007.


 Calvin will add poise in front of the opposition's net and someone who can add his name to the stat sheet almost every match.  Speed is a positive attribute for Calvin along with experience in playing a lot of soccer and being able to involve teammates.  Calvin and his future teammates who should see time at forward; Briston Lowell, Seth Romsa, Josh Abplanalp, Carlos Gonzalez and Victor Gonzalez should be able to continue the tradition of great forward play and finding the back of the net.  Karangwa could also fill-in at any of our attacking midfield positions including attacking center midfield and outside midfield.

Western is very lucky to have a talented young man like Calvin Karangwa choose to represent them on the soccer pitch.  The best of luck to Calvin the next 2 years while wearing the Mustang Red, White and Black.

NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards Recognize 4 Mustangs

From the Western Wyoming Community College Men's Soccer team Adam Stocks, Alan Wendlandt, Seth Romsa and Tanner Trumble have earned this award.  Seth earned the Exemplary Academic Achievement Award: 3.60-3.79 GPA.  Adam and Alan earned the Superior Academic Achievement Award: 3.80-3.99 GPA.  Tanner earned the Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence: 4.00 GPA

Congratulations to these four outstanding young men and their efforts in the classroom.  Way to represent WWCC!

Diego Coronado Signs with Western Wyoming

Diego Coronado from Wendell Idaho and Wendell High School has committed to and signed a National Letter of Intent to play college soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY for the 2016-2017 season.

During Diego's junior year he was instrumental in helping the Wendell High Trojans in winning the 3A Idaho State Soccer Tournament.  During his senior year the team did not fair as well as the previous year but Diego was still voted to and played in an All Star Game.

Diego is a defender who has excelled with both his high school team, Wendell High Trojans, and his club team, Twin Falls Rapids.  Corey Farnsworth coach of the Twin Falls Rapids U18 boys says, "Diego has incredible ball skills and speed that is unmatched on the field. He is very strong when winning aerial balls and has the foot skills to play as an attacking mid. His defensive positioning and timing are generally flawless and his ability to communicate the game along with his effort and relentless desire make him a great player."

At Western Wyoming Diego will come in and immediately have a chance to earn a starting position and playing time as a freshman.  We are very intrigued with his natural speed at the center back position and his ability to win almost everything in the air, skills that are very needed for center backs.  We also know that he has the ability, speed and skills to help us out as an outside defender, outside mid or even in the center of the midfield.  We are very ecstatic to have Diego join the Mustang Soccer family and know that he will do very well for us as we continue to build one of the best and most consistent NJCAA soccer programs in the Inter-mountain West.

Buffalo WY Keeper - Trevor Rogers now a Mustang

Trevor Rogers, who hails from Buffalo WY and just recently graduated from Buffalo High, has signed his National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.

Trevor comes from one of the most successful 3A soccer programs in the state of Wyoming.  He played for BHS all four years of his high school career.  All four of those years the Bison of Buffalo High reached the 3A State Soccer Semi-finals.  In 2013, Roger's freshman year,  the Buffalo team won the 3A WY state championship.  During his junior year  he saved 111 shots on goal, while only allowing 19 goals.  He helped the BHS team to a 4th Place Finish at the 3A State Soccer.  For his efforts in 2015 he was named 1st Team 3A East All Conference and 2nd Team 3A All State.  During his most recent campaign, 2016 his senior season, Trevor amassed 64 saves, while conceding 21 goals.  In 2016 he and the Bison finished the 3A State Soccer Cup in 3rd place.  As a team BHS had a goal differential of +35 for the season.  Again Rogers was names 1st Team 3A All Conference and 2nd Team 3A All State for the 2016 season.

Obviously Trevor fills a need for Western Wyoming as both keepers from the 2015 team graduated.  Trevor will join two other keeper who will compete for playing team and a chance to win the starting spot for the 2016 Mustangs.

Trevor is a physical keeper who uses his size and aggressiveness to help keep the opposition from scoring.  He is vocal and a leader to his team and his defense.  His organizational skills are impressive and necessary for his success at the the collegiate level.  Trevor will continue to work on defending angles and anticipating what the attacking players will do next.  Western Wyoming is very excited to add this young man to the 2016 team and beyond.  We know that he will do well on both the athletic field and in the classroom.  Congratulations Trevor for continuing your soccer career and starting your post secondary education.

Matthew Ochoa - 2016 Signee from West High

Matthew Ochoa has signed a National Letter of Intent to play college soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.  Ochoa is a 2016 graduate from West High in Salt Lake City Utah.

Matthew was scouted at a home match for West High in April.  West was playing against the eventual 5A Utah Soccer champions - Viewmont Vikings.  West won the match 2 to 1 and Ochoa lead the WHS defense to shut down the VHS attack which included the 5A MVP, Drake Cook from Viewmont.  Beside shutting down a good attack in that match Matthew showed leadership and organizational skills of a back line.  We were impressed with Matthew's size about 6 foot tall and speed.  He also has a nice touch on the ball with accurate passing and distribution from the back.

Ochoa is a versatile defender who played club soccer for Firebirds
FC.  At West High Matthew was a 2 year HS starter and a 3 year varsity letter winner.  In 2016, Matthew won the West High award for leadership and served as one of the captains for the squad.

As a member of the West High Soccer team, Ochoa has competed in a very tough 5A Region 2 soccer.  Despite the tough schedule year in and year out West and Ochoa qualified for the state playoffs 3 of the 4 years he played for West.   Matthew was part of 12 shutouts during his high school career for WHS soccer, an average of 3 shutouts a year.

Matthew Ochoa fills a big need for Western as we only return one of the five center backs that were on the roster for the fall 2015 season.  We know that Matthew will do a good job as a soccer player and will take his responsibility as a student athlete seriously.  We are happy to have Matthew as a member of the Mustang Soccer Family.

Carlos Gonzalez Recuit from Idaho to Western Wyo

Carlos Gonzlez who recently graduated from Wood River High School in Hailey ID has signed his National Letter of Intent to play college soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.

Carlos was a part of a great high school team and tradition with the Wolverine's of Wood River High.  They averaged 10 or more wins during his 4 year high school career and had success at the 4A Idaho State Soccer level.  During his senior campaign Carlos was named to the Honorable Mention - 4A Boys Great Basin Conference Team.  Gonzalez was also a great student at WRHS and a leader for his peers and teammates.

February of 2016 is when Carlos came for an ID camp to see if he had the skills to play at the next level and become a Mustang.  At the ID camp Carlos showed great speed and good quickness.  He also impressed us with his accurate and well timed cross and passing.  He showed great field awareness and that he could help keep possession in the scrimmage that we held with the ID camp participants.  There were no glaring major holes in his game.  Of course like all freshmen Gonzalez will have to come in and improve in speed of play and toughness to be able to contribute right away for the Western Wyoming Men's team in the fall of 2016.

We foresee Carlos using his skills as an attacking player for the Mustangs.  Probably being the most useful in the midfield.  His passing ability makes us think about him as attacking mid and his speed leans us to an outside midfielder.  We also know that he has enough quickness and nose for goal that he could also be used as a striker if needed.  Carlos has told us that he would be willing to play any position besides keeper.  We are happy to have a strong player, student and young man such as Carlos Gonzalez a part of Western Wyoming Soccer.
