Mustangs Play Extra Time Again

On Saturday at Crossroads Field in Rock Springs WY the WWCC Mustangs squared off with the Griffins of Westminster College. The team from Westminster College was their reserve team as Westminster is a 4 year college. Westminster College got on the board quickly as they scored in the 1st minute of the match after they linked several passes together to get past the WWCC defense. The stunned Mustangs fought back and scored in the 11th minute to tie up the match. The goal was scored when Brandon Bushman with the keeper behind him sent a square pass into the middle of the goal mouth where Joe Lake touched the ball into the empty net. The scored stayed tied at 1 at the half time break. Oscar Delgado made his first start in goal for the Mustangs and record 5 saves in the 1st half.

The second half was very similar to the first with two teams fighting hard to get opportunities to score. Both teams had a few looks but some missed hit balls and some awesome saves from both keepers kept the teams off the scoreboard in the second half.

So for the second match in as many days the Mustangs headed into overtime. The twenty minutes of overtime was enjoyable to watch as both teams stayed on the attack and missed some good chances. Joe Lake, Kyle Seljaas and Erick Mata all had good shots on the goal that were denied by the Griffins goal keeper in the extra periods. The second draw in a row leaves WWCC with a record of 2 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties.

Game Stats - Shots; WWCC 24, Westminster 20 - Saves; WWCC 11, Westminster 11 - Corner Kicks; WWCC 6, Westminster 9
