Cougars Best the Mustangs

On Saturday in Scottsbluff NE the Western Wyoming Mustangs played against the Cougars of Western Nebraska. The Mustangs were hoping for a win to try to get themselves into the 4th place spot in the Region. In a fairly even match the WNCC Cougars took the wind in the first half and started in the attack. The Mustangs rebounded well and possessed the ball very well in the first half with 1 and 2 touch passing. However the Mustangs did not gain a lot of quality looks in the first half. The Cougars had a few chances in the first half and scored the lone goal of the first 45 in the thirtieth minute off of a rebound previously saved by WWCC keeper Taylor Whetman. The halftime score was WNCC 1 – WWCC 0.

The second half saw the Mustangs take some more chances offensively and get a couple of great chances in front of the Cougar net by Charley Lifferth, Miguel Maca and Angel Muniz. Sadly for the Mustangs 2 penalty kicks were called on them in the 60th and 63rd minute and the Cougars were able to score on both attempts and took a commanding lead of 3 – 0 with less than a half hour left of the match. WWCC changed formations to try to get more bodies into the offensive third of the field but could not score and the match ended 3 – 0 in favor of WWCC.
