On Monday in the night cap match of the first day of the NJCAA tournament the #1 ranked team in the nation, the Darton State College Cavaliers played the #12 seeded Western Wyoming Mustangs in Albany GA the home of Darton State College.  In front of a great crowd the two teams played the best match of the NJCAA tournament so far.  The DSC Cavaliers wasted no time to draw a foul from about 20 yards out and converted a stellar free kick which hit the outside post and deflected into the goal.  DSC took a 1 - 0 lead in the 5th minute.  The Mustangs did not let this goal damper their spirits and got back to work.  In the 9th minute the Mustangs earned a corner kick that Jared Jess took, the kick hit the crossbar and ricocheted to the back post where Jarom Stuart finished the chance and evened the score at 1 - 1.  The match remained tied for the next 14 minutes until Darton sent a beautiful long ball to the right corner that was corralled by a Cavalier player sent across the face of the goal and finished on the back post.  The goal in the 25th minute brought the score back in Darton State's favor 2 - 1.  The match remained at this score until the halftime break.
The second half was very similar to the first half with Darton struggling to break down the Mustangs but controlling the possession.  The Mustangs finding pockets to counter and try to use the wide areas of the pitch.  The score remained a 2 - 1 score until the 83rd minute when WWCC was whistled for another penalty kick.  The Cavaliers converted the kick and took a 3 - 1 lead.  The Mustangs played very well and hard until the final whistle and can keep their heads high because of their effort and team work.  The loss brings the Mustangs to a 14 - 10 - 1 record.  The Mustangs have one more guaranteed match at the NJCAA tournament.
