Picking up one of the best victories in program history on Friday in Rock Springs, Western Wyoming defeated the #5 NJCAA Nationaly Ranked Otero Junior College Rattlers.
The first 5 to 10 minutes were dominated in possession from the visiting team Otero but Western settled into the match and started to find success against the high pressing OJC. Neither team found the back of the net in the first stanza and the halftime score was 0 - 0.
The second half saw the Mustangs continue to grow in confidence and possession of the ball and the match. In the 62nd minute the match changed when Jake Samsel passed a ball to Jose Rincon who calmly slotted it past the OJC keeper for a WWCC lead of 1 - 0. For the remainder of the match Western continued to build offensively and stay strong defensively. At the end of 90 minutes the score was in favor of Western 1 - 0. The win over OJC makes Western's 2015 record 5 - 2 - 2. This was the 2nd time in history that WWCC had faced a top 5 team and the first time that they had defeated a top 5 team.
Mustang Man of the Match: Jose Rincon from continued great play as a forward and the game winning goal on the #5 ranked team in the Nation.
