Mustangs Sweep Trappers, Clinch Playoff Berth

On Saturday at Rock Springs Junior High the Mustangs of Western Wyoming hosted the Northwest College Trappers.  The first match of 2016 between these teams was a classic that WWCC came back to win by a score of 2 to 1.  The rematch would prove to be another classic.

In the first half Northwest would score first off of an own goal when the ball was deflected off of a WWCC player, the Trapper goal was in the 22nd minute.  In the 25th minute Ty Nielsen evened the score off of a 30 yard free kick which beautifully beat the Trapper wall and keeper.  Just when it seemed that the Mustangs got back into the match a Northwest goal in the 30th minute gave the Trappers a 2 to 1 lead at halftime.

In the second half the Mustangs did a good job of finding the weaknesses of the Northwest defense.  In the 51st minute Josh Abplanalp found the back of the net for his second goal of the weekend, the assist to Matthew Ochoa.  Grayson Barnes finished the scoring off in the 70th minute with a goal assisted by Seth Romsa.  The match became chippy and 2 Mustangs were shown red cards in the final minutes for leaving the bench area during an altercation on the pitch.  The match was consistent to the previous seasons with many cards and no lead ever safe in the match.  The record of the Mustang's is now 7 - 5 - 1 and 5 - 1 - 0 in Region IX North.  This victory also assures that the Mustangs will avoid playing in the 1st Round of the playoffs and will receive a bye into the quarter-finals.

Mustang Man of the Match:  Grayson Barnes - scored the third and final goal for Mustangs to seal a crazy victory.
