WWCC Earns Second Shutout in a Row

In Provo, on the 27th of September the Mustangs played their second game of the day. Their opponent was the Rocky Mountain Rival club team, the Rival team defeated the Mustangs earlier in the season in an overtime game played in Rcok Springs WY. This time around the Mustangs were able to best the Rival team and come away with a 1 - 0 victory. The lone goal came fairly early on in the first half when Devin King assisted Allen Deru for the goal. Deru scored his team leading 8th goal of the season and his goal proved to be enough for the Mustangs as their defense once again played very well along with their keepers. Throughout the course of this match WWCC was able to create more chances to score than their opponent but seemed to miss that finishing touch on the day. However, they also proved that sometimes just finishing once is good enough. The Mustangs played very well throughout both games and were finally able to bring and play their full roster of players. This is the first time that this was possible during this season due to injuries. Earning the shutout victory in goal was Shawn Coryell.

Overall Record - (7 - 5 - 0)

WWCC rally falls short versus IWCC

On Saturday in Scottsbluff NE, the WWCC Mustangs faced off against the Iowa Western Reivers. The game saw the IWCC team play better at the start of the game and take a 2 - 0 half time lead. The Mustangs played better in the second half but once again saw the Reivers score two goals for a commanding 4 - 0 lead with thirty minutes to go.

The final half an hour of the match saw the Mustangs mount a spirited comeback. It started when Chris Byers found Devin King on a great ball up the middle that King put into the net. Next with seven minutes left in the match, Devin King was fouled in the penalty area and Chris Byers stepped up and finished the opportunity. The Mustangs scored their third goal with three minutes left in the match when Chase Talbot passed to a sprinting Chris Byers who pushed the ball past the keeper and into the goal. The remaining three minutes saw the Reivers try to defend and hold off the momentum of the Mustangs. A WWCC goals was scored with 1:00 left by Chase Talbot, however the officials ruled that the goalie had control of the ball when it was kicked into the net, so the goal was not allowed. With too little time, the Mustangs could not muster another goal to force the improbable extra time between the two teams. So the score stood after 90 minutes IWCC 4 - WWCC 3.
