WWCC Ends Pre-Season with a Loss

On Tuesday in Rock Springs the WWCC Mustangs took the field for their last scrimmage of the 2010 campaign. This was their first home contest of the season and the first time they had ever faced the Treasure Valley Community College Chukars. The match field for WWCC looked great with the new additions of team shelters and a permanent scoreboard. The match worked in conjunction with the college's Kick-off day and WWCC had one of their best home crowds ever.

The first ten minutes were started at a quick pace with both teams looking very good. Treasure Valley got on the board first when they sent a diagonal ball into the Mustang's penalty area and were able to get a foot to it just before the WWCC keeper Taylor Whetman snagged it. The first goal was scored in the 12th minute of play. Five minutes later Western got on the board when Miguel Maca stole a back pass from TVCC and put it past their keeper into the net. The score stayed even at 1 a piece for the remainder of the first half of the scrimmage. Mitch Christensen saw his first action and start as a WWCC Mustang and Riley Yerkovich made his first start for the red and black.

The second half was dominated by the Chukars, as WWCC was only really able to possess the ball in their defensive half. The Mustangs did have a couple of legitimate chances at the TVCC goal but came up inches short each time. The Chukars scored the second and final goal in the 56th minute on a through ball that beat both the defense and WWCC keeper Todd West. The final score of the match TVCC 2 - WWCC 1.
