Western Loses Region Road Match

On Wednesday in Cheyenne WY the Western Wyoming Mustangs and Laramie County Golden Eagles faced off on the soccer pitch continuing the oldest rivalry for the Mustangs and the oldest rivalry in the state of Wyoming.

The match started well for the Mustangs as they scored in the 8th minute of the match when Charley Lifferth scored off of a direct free kick from about 30 yards beating the keeper to the top right corner. LCCC dominated the play most of the first half and scored an equalizing goal in the 16th minute when they hit a 20 yard shot past WWCC keeper Taylor Whetman. The Golden Eagles gained the lead in the 36th minute when their through ball beat the Mustang back line and their player scored on a 1 versus 1 with Whetman. LCCC had the lead at 2 - 1 at the half.

Western started slow in the second half and found themselves down 2 goals in the 47th minute after a rebound was not cleared and a LCCC player put it into the net. The Mustangs started to find ways to penetrate the LCCC defense and had some decent looks and chances at the Golden Eagle goal in the second half. Some good opportunities were had by Stefan Naylor, Miguel Maca and Angel Muniz. The home standing LCCC team put a nail in Western's coffin in the 77th minute when they beat a tired WWCC defense and pushed the ball past Todd West, who had been subbed into the goal in the 70th minute. The final score stood at 4 - 1 in favor of LCCC.
