Slow Start Sinks Mustang's Chances

On Saturday at Rock Springs Junior High the WWCC Mustangs squared off against the Wildcats of Weber State University.  This was a very well played college soccer match between two good teams.  The Mustangs were off to a 1 - 0 start along with Weber State.  Both teams defeated North Idaho earlier in the weekend.  WWCC is a full varsity NJCAA soccer team and Weber State is a reigning National College Club Champions.  The lone goal of the match was in the 4th minute when a Weber State player hit a hard curving and dipping shot past Mitch Jensen, the WWCC keeper.  The Mustangs did start out slow and allowed too much space for this player to get his shot off.  The Mustangs controlled very little of the first half and were caught often chasing the ball and not generating many true scoring opportunities.  The halftime score was 1 - 0.
WWCC made some great adjustments at half and came out in the last 45 minutes pressing the play more with more opportunities and chances from the Mustangs.  Shots in the second half were from Richie Harris, Taylor Egbert, Greg Howard and Nate Pierce.  The Weber State goalie made some nice saves on some of the Mustang shots and the other were just wide of the mark.  WWCC found more of the ball in the second half and more than doubled their possession and their shots.  However no goals were scored from either team in the final forty five minutes and the end of the match the score was 1 - 0 in favor of the Wildcats.  The loss puts WWCC at 1 win and 1 lose for the 2012 season after their first weekend of play.
