Alumni Scrimmage - 8/10/13

On Saturday at Rock Springs Junior High the 2013 Western Wyoming Mustangs had a 90 minute scrimmage against the alumni from the past WWCC soccer teams.
The 2013 Mustangs were split into 2 squads with each squad playing around 45 minutes of the scrimmage.  The three goal keepers were each in the match for 30 minutes.
The current Mustangs were sore form a week of training camp and a little slow at the start of the scrimmage as the alumni controlled most of the action and possession in the first 10 minutes of the scrimmage.  The 2013 Mustangs gained more offense and more possession after the rough start but the alumni did control roughly 60% of the possession in the scrimmage.
The first goal of the scrimmage came from the alumni when Erik Stembridge (2008, 2011) placed a nice shot in the far upper corner of the goal.

The current team did not let the alumni rest with the lead as they struck twice before the half time whistle.  Both goals for the 2013 team were scored by Rico Mendez.  The halftime score was 2 - 1 in favor of the current Mustangs.

The alumni tied the scrimmage when Angel Muniz (2010-2011) scored a nicely placed penalty kick that beat the Mustang keeper, Taylor Bell.  Again the current team used their speed and counter attack well and scored their third goal and a hat trick for Rico Mendez.  The final goal of the scrimmage was off of a rebound after a free kick that was taken by Kyle Seljaas.  The goal was headed back in by DJ Searcy.  The final score for the scrimmage was 4 - 2 in favor of the 2013 team.  The scrimmage was a lot of fun to see past players compete with current players and shows the current team areas to work on this second week of training camp before their next 2 scrimmages.
