Mustangs Show Off Offense in Last Non-Region Match

On Saturday, in their lone match of the week the Mustangs played against the Lions from LDS Business College in Salt Lake City UT.  These same two teams squared off last season in an exhibition.
The Mustangs controlled much of the match including the possession for much of the 1st half.  The first goal came in the 22nd minute when Vitor Nazareth scored his first goal of the season off of a free kick from about 25-30 yards away.  The second goal was from the Mustangs also as DJ Searcy scored in the 40th minute after an Eric Walker pass and a Bernard Manuel dummy.  The two goal lead for the Mustangs did not last long as the Lions stormed back and tied the match before halftime with goals in the 42nd minute and in the 45th minute.  The halftime score was two to two.
In the second half the Mustangs continued to find holes in the Lions defense and made changes to their defense so that they were not exposed.  The scoring for the Mustangs started early in the 2nd half when Raul Cavazos hit a slow dribbler with his right foot past the LDSBC keeper in the 47th minute, this goal was assisted by Bernie Manuel and the play started with Rico Mendez.  The 63rd minute of play was a busy one for the Mustangs as the scored early in the minute when Adrian Sanchez headed home a Chandler Young free kick.  The Sanchez header was from about 20 yards out.  Twenty two seconds later Bernard Manuel continued to score as he hit a 20 yard shot after he was fed the ball from Chandler Young.  The Mustangs were able to hold the ball and to continue their attack for the rest of the match.  The 6th and final goal came in the 90th minute when Brock Mosier was taken down in the box with 6 seconds to go.  Taylor Bell, the starting keeper, trotted the full length of the field and calmly hit the penalty kick in the bottom right corner of the net.  The win moves the Mustangs to a 4 - 2 - 0 overall record and concludes the non-region schedule.  Every match from here on out will be a Region IX opponent.
