1st Match a Draw for Mustangs

On Thursday at Crossroads Park in Rock Springs the Mustangs faced Region IX South opponent Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen.  Although this does not count in the Region standings this is a team that Western might face in the Region IX tournament.  NJC started quickly and were awarded a penalty kick early in the match which they converted for an early 1 - 0 lead.  WWCC fought back and found an equalizing goal by a free kick kicked perfectly by Victor Gonzalez.  Just when it looked like Western was going to go into the half tied at 1 goal a piece NJC hit a great shot to take a 2 to 1 lead at the break.

The second half was owned by Western Wyoming but WWCC had some trouble finding the back of the net.  The second goal for the Mustangs came on a counter attack lead by Mike Wolken who assisted on the goal of Briston Lowell.  With the score even for most of the second half the Mustangs just could not break the NJC defense again.  The score remained tied after 90 minutes of regulation.

Both teams would participate in two 10 minute overtime periods where both teams had some real chances but neither team could find the winning goal.  The match would end in a 2 to 2 tie.  The overall record for the Mustangs is 0 - 0 - 1 for the 2016 season.

Mustang Man of the Match: Victor Gonzalez - for the amazing free-kick goal and solid play both at forward and in the midfield.
