The Mustangs started the 2018 regular season at home against the USU- Eastern Golden Eagles on Wednesday at Rock Springs High School.USU - Eastern scored first in the 6th minute of play. Western allowed a USU-E forward to slip behind them in the middle of the pitch. For the next 20 - 25 minutes it was a good battle between the two squads. In the 33rd minute lightning delayed the match for over an hour. When play resumed USU-Eastern scored a second goal to take a 2 to 0 lead into the halftime break. Due to the lengthy lightning delay the halftime was just a few minutes long as the players got water, instruction and switched sides of the field.
The second half was not a great showing for the Mustangs as they continued to allow penetration on their back line and gave up too many shots from the opposition. USU-Eastern added 3 more goals in this half in the 51st, 56th and 79th minute. WWCC had a couple of opportunities but ended the game without a goal. The final score was USU-Eastern 5 and WWCC 0. This loss made the Mustang 2018 record to 0 - 1 - 0.
