Too little Too late versus #22 Northwest

On Wednesday in Powell Wyoming the Trappers from Northwest College played against the Mustangs of Western Wyoming in a classic Region IX match.  The Trappers came out with a high offensive pressure and lots of enthusiasm.  The Mustangs matched their intensity and both teams had some great chances but no goals were scored in the first thirty minutes.  The first goal came in the 37th minute when a cross was headed in from short distance on the Mustangs defense and keeper Mitch Jensen.  The Trappers added their second goal just 2 minutes later when the Mustangs could not clear the ball in their own box and paid for it.  The Mustangs were held off of the scoreboard in the first 45 minutes although they had good chances from Steven Shelley, Taylor Egbert and Richard Harris.  The half time score was 2 - 0 in favor of NWC.
The second half continued with the Trappers still finishing their chances and the Mustangs just off of the mark.  NWC scored their third goal in the 55th minute off of a penalty kick.  The 4th goal for the Trappers was in the 65th minute when the WWCC keeper was caught off his line and NWC hit a nice chip to score.  Give credit to the Mustangs as they never gave up in the match and continued to battle.  The effort of the Mustangs finally paid off in the 81st minute.  Richard Harris found himself with the ball, made a few nice moves and scored.  The Mustangs continued their offense when 1 minute later Richard Harris found a path in the defense and took another good shot on the frame.  The ball was saved and DJ Searcy was there to finish the rebound.  Three minutes later, in the 85th minute, the Mustangs found the net again.  It was Richard Harris' second goal of the match this time off of a Jarom Stuart assist.  With five minutes left the score was 4 - 3.  The Mustangs subbed out a defender and added another forward to try to find the match tying goal.  In the waning seconds the Trappers caught the Mustangs in a counter attack and scored an insurance goal to win 5 - 3.  The loss brings the WWCC record to 6 - 5 - 0 and their Region IX record to 2 - 3 - 0 and 4th place in the Region.
