Trappers escape with the win in last :30 seconds

On a very windy Wednesday in Rock Springs the Trappers from Northwest College and the Mustangs from Western Wyoming played a Region IX match.  The 30 - 35 mph wind blew from one goal to the other, the wind helped the Trappers in the first half as it was to their back.  The lone goal in the first half was from a cross from NWC that was caught by the wind and floated to the back post and past the WWCC keeper in the 28th minute.  The Mustangs did have their share of possession with the wind in their faces and even a few chances but the score after 45 minutes was NWC 1 - WWCC 0.
As the teams changed end of the field in the second half so did the momentum of the match.  WWCC found it very easy to attack and found many more opportunities at the Trapper goal.  However the goal that they needed did not come until the 83rd minute.  The goal was scored by Jarom Stuart with an assist to Nate Cutler. The Mustangs almost got the win in regulation in the last 7 minutes with ither chances from WWCC forwards Jarom Stuart, Greg Howard and Steven Shelley.  Sadly for the Mustangs the ball would not cross the goal line and the match was tied in regulation and headed to overtime.  The 4th overtime for the Mustangs this year and the 4th time in the last five matches.  After 90 minutes the score was tied 1 - 1.
In overtime the Mustangs got the wind at their backs first but where not able to score in the first ten minutes.  Even with the wind at their faces the Mustangs controlled much of the play and chances.  Unfortunately with about 40 seconds to go in the second overtime, the Trapper pressured the ball in the Mustang defensive third and sent a good ball to the corner.  Their a NWC corralled the ball and sent a low drive ball into the penalty area.  It slipped past a couple of WWCC defenders and found a Trapper foot at the back post who directed the ball into the net.  The Trapper won the match off of the kick with 27 seconds left in the match.  The loss now has the Mustang record at 9 - 8 - 1 and 4 - 6 - 1 in Region IX play.  The Mustangs are still in 4th place in the Region.
