Western Wins on Sophomore Night

On Saturday, sophomore recognition day for Western Wyoming the Mustangs squared off against their second oldest rival the Western Nebraska Cougars.

The Cougars were fighting for their playoff lives and they had to win in order for them to make the playoffs.  The Mustangs with a win or a loss were firmly into the #2 seed from the Region IX North.  The Mustangs rested players who had injuries and also those who were in danger of picking up their 5th yellow card of the season.  The first half was pretty slow with few chances for either team.  The game was scoreless at the intermission.

In the second half the Mustangs applied more pressure and finally broke through in the 81st minute when Tanner Trumble headed home a free kick sent into the box from Devin Moore.  The final score was WWCC 1 - WNCC 0.  This eliminated the Cougars from participating in the Region IX playoffs.  The 2015 regular season record for the Mustangs was 12 - 4 - 3.  The most wins and best regular season record for the Mustangs in their history.

Mustang Man of the Match:  Tanner Trumble - for the winning goal and solid play throughout the match and season.
