The 2016 Spring WWCC Mustang Soccer team traveled to Cheyenne WY and played futsal at the annual LCCC Futsal Event. This was the second year in a row that Western has competed at this event. The 2016 Spring team was divided into 2 teams and each team had four 25 minute games. The WWCC Red Team Members were - Riley Gibson, Landon Jacobsen, Carsen Tinker, Tanner Trumble, Jose Rincon, Nate Cutler, Jared Jess, Braden Smith and Austin Pinter. The red team won 1 scrimmage and lost three. Two of their losses were by 1 goal - losing to WNCC 2 - 3 and Otero JC 0 - 1. The loss to LCCC was a big loss 1 - 7. The last scrimmage was against Northwest Kansas Tech and the Red Team won 5 to 1. Goal scorers for the Red team were; Jared Jess (3), Braden Smith (2), Nate Cutler (1), Riley Gibson (1) and Carsen Tinker (1). Austin Pinter had 14 saves on the day.
The WWCC Black Team Members were; Seth Romsa, Jairo Razo, Kasey Elizondo, Kyle Mivshek, Justin Gordon, Camen Gray, Piero Levano, Alejandro Bermudez, Grayson Barnes and Ben Kunz. The black team also went 1 and 3 on the day. The black team showed good defense giving up just over 2 goals per scrimmage. The losses were against WNCC 0 - 1, vs LCCC 1 - 3 and Northwest Kansas Tech 0 - 4. The victory on the day was against Otero Junior College by a score of 2 - 1. Goal scorers for the Black Team was Jairo Razo (2) and Piero Levano (1). Kyle Mivshek had 18 saves on the day.
The players left for spring break after returning from the futsal event and will continue to work after spring break for their next three spring soccer events in the month of April.
