Grayson Barnes a rising sophomore at Western Wyoming Community College has signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the Mustangs during the 2016-2017 soccer season and school year. Barnes is a 2015 graduate from the Singapore American School in Singapore.
As a freshman Grayson was a "super sub" for the Mustangs appearing in every regular season half for Western. His stats from 2015 were 9 Shots, 1 Goal, 1 Assist, 2 Fouls and 42 Halves Played. Grayson primarily played as an outside midfielder for the 2015 Mustangs. Grayson was one of two freshmen outside midfielder who were behind some of the best outside mids in the history of WWCC. Grayson possesses good pace and a long stride. His touch is good and improving. Barnes is a consignment team player and does what it takes to help the team improve. As a freshman he received the Mustang Pride Award that was voted on by his teammates.
Spring 2016 was good for Grayson as he continued to develop and transitioned to another position. Grayson trained and played mainly as an outside defender during the spring season. Grayson started every outdoor scrimmage this spring at the right back position. He worked very hard to learn the positioning especially on the defensive third. Barnes did a very good job getting into the attack and helping possess the ball in the middle of the field and in the attacking third. Grayson crosses the ball very well including proper weight and velocity of the ball for the situation.
As a sophomore we expect Grayson to be a leader for the Mustangs on and off of the field. He has the versatility to play and start at several positions for WWCC including; outside back, center back, outside mid, and forward. We honestly see him getting more time as an outside back but we know that Grayson Barnes is an outstanding soccer player and he will play whatever role the 2016 WWCC Mustangs ask him to play to have success as a team.
