The Western Wyoming Mustangs got an eye opener with their first taste of collegiate soccer playing against the Weber State Wildcats in Ogden on Saturday. The Wildcats scored early and often as the WWCC men tried to shore up their defense and create some attacking possibilities. The starters in the game were; Keeper - Shawn Coryell, Defense - Nic Gonzalez, Ricardo Arreola, Ben Owens and Cameron Lowry, Midfield - Chase Talbot, Colt Klements, Allen Deru and Kyle Howe, Forwards - Devin King and Omar Jaimes. Suiting up and playing two halves each for the Mustangs were Steven Sharp, Patrick Ritter, Brad Yard, Erik Stembridge, Kyle Talbott, Taylor Ford and Kota Kimura. Chris Byers, Franchelli Albornoz, Tyson Day and Mason Hall were all sidelined with injuries for the game.
The opposition was good and the legs of the Mustangs sore but they fought all 90 minutes which saw several players play in positions unfamiliar to them to help out the team.
Although the team was defeated on the field they will try to learn from their mistakes and now have some collegiate experience to help for their next game.
Workhorse of the Match: Brad Yard
Next Game; at Pasco WA versus Columbia Basin CC on Wednesday August 20.
