Mustangs Wrap up the Regular Season with Overtime Victory

On Saturday on Salt Lake City UT the WWCC Mustangs played against the Westminster Griffin Reserves. On a cool and rainy day the Mustangs saw the Griffins find the net first in the 15th minute after the ball bounced right to the foot of the Westminster player who finished his opportunity. Neither team could find the net again in the first 45 minutes and the half time score was Griffins 1 and Mustangs 0. In the second half the WWCC team seemed to have more chances at the goal but did not find the game tying goal until the 84th minute when WWCC forward Kota Kimura beat the Griffin keeper and tied the game. Both teams remained tied for the rest of the regulation and started overtime. In college soccer overtime, the teams play two (2) 10 minute periods but it is also sudden victory for a team if they score. Just a couple of minutes into the first overtime period Omar Jaimes got off a shot that deflected of a Westminster defender and into the net for the game winning goal. This victory matches the most wins by a WWCC team in a season, it also assures the Mustangs will finish the season with a winning record, their first winning season as a varsity program.

Overall Record - (9 - 7 - 0)
