Mustangs Lose a Heart Breaker

On Saturday in Rock Springs WY the Madison Dragons Soccer Club (BYU-Idaho) faced the Mustangs of Western Wyoming Community College. It was a very close and well fought battle between these two squads. Both teams saw some good opportunities at the goal in the first half both never team could punch it in. So after 45 minutes the Mustangs and Dragons were tied at zero.

In the second half the action again heated up with the Dragons taking more shots than the Mustangs, however a lot of the Dragons shots were from long distance and did not bother the Mustang keeper. During the course of the match both teams had goals called back by the referee. In the first half an apparent own goal was called back due to a prior foul on the play and in the second half a header by Joe Lake was also nullified by an offsides call. At the end of 90 minutes the score was still zero to zero.

The two teams headed into sudden death overtime. In the first 10 minutes of overtime it was again a very even match. But in the 98th minute the lone goal of the match occurred. On a low crossing ball the Dragons were able to re-direct it towards their goal and keeper Taylor Whetman was only able to slow it down. The ball fully crossed line before Whetman pulled it out of the goal. This loss drops the Mustang's record to 4 wins, 4 losses and 2 ties.
