In what is becoming a yearly tradition the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs traveled to St George to face off against the Dixie State University Red Storm in a scrimmage. Dixie State wanted to play 3 thirty minute periods. The first period was the mist evenly played with the Red Storm taking a lead in the 8th minute off of a corner kick header. The Mustangs evened the score ten minutes later when Rico Mendez was fouled and earned a free kick. Vitor Nazareth sent the free kick into the box and Adrian Sanchez neatly headed it into the back of the net. The first period ended in a 1 - 1 tie.
Mass changes were had by the Mustangs in the second period. Replacing 8 of the original 11 starters. The second period saw the Mustangs absorb a lot of pressure from the Red Storm and it looked like maybe this period would be a tie also but the Red Storm scored off of another corner kick in the 28th minute.
Again a lot of changes in the lineup occurred with 10 different players than just played in the second period. Dixie State hit a wicked right footed shot in the 9th minute of this period that snuck past keeper Eric Walker. That was the only goal of that period.
Overall the scrimmage helped the Mustangs solidify their starting lineup and use different combinations of players to see how they interact. So, all in all a successful scrimmage for the Mustangs.
