Another Late PK Call in Cheyenne

On Wednesday in Cheyenne, Western and their oldest rivals the LCCC Golden Eagles paired off in a classic Region IX match.  The Mustangs made the trip a little short handed as starters Nate Pierce and Brock Mosier both had to sit out serving a red card suspension.  Also captain Kyle Seljaas was slowed with a bum ankle.  Phil Angerhofer was sidelined in the first 10 minutes of the match with a groin injury.  The Mustangs despite their depth issues played very well and valiantly.  There were no goals in the first half and no true or good chances for either side.  The halftime score was 0 - 0.
The second half was very similar to the first 45 minutes.  Lots of battles in the midfield, few chances for either team.  LCCC did possess the ball more than the Mustangs and the Golden Eagles did take many more shots, the majority of which were from long distance and far from target.  The match looked destined to go to another overtime, which would have been the third straight match between these two teams that went to the extra periods.  However a penalty kick was called in the 85th minute and LCCC was able to convert.  The Mustangs continued to fight and looked like they were building an attack when the time expired.  The loss moves the Mustang 2013 record to 5 - 4 - 0 and their Region IX record to 1 - 2 - 0.
