Western Sweeps Season Series with Westminster JV

On Saturday the Mustangs played the second match of the season against Westminster JV squad.  Westminster is a 4 year NAIA school located in Salt Lake City UT.  The first time the teams meet was the first scrimmage of the season in Salt Lake where the Mustangs won 2 - 1 in overtime.
For the fourth time in five matches the Mustangs scored first.  Brock Mosier scored when he was able to break free down the middle of the Griffins defense and beat their keeper in the 39th minute.  The Mosier goal was the lone goal of the half.  The Mustangs took a 1 - 0 lead into the break.
The Mustangs looked like a different team between today and their match the night before.  The Mustangs were moving the ball quicker and keeping possession of the ball while still attacking the opposing goal.  They kept this play up both halves of the match.
The second half saw a quick offensive explosion when two goals were scored 17 seconds apart.  In the 49th minute Phil Angerhofer took a 35 yard shot which beautifully floated over the keeper and ducked under the bar.  Shortly after the kick-off Vitor Nazareth sent a great ball to a streaking Bernard Manuel who beat the keeper for the Mustang's third goal in the 50th minute.  The Mustangs played all of their bench in the second half and were still able to control the majority of the match.  The Mustang defense and keeper kept the clean sheet and limited the Westminster offense all match.  The midfield kept possession of the ball and got involved in the attack.  The forwards set up plays and create dangerous scoring opportunities.  The final score after 90 minutes was WWCC 3 - Westminster JV 0.  The win lifts the Mustangs to a 2013 record of 3 wins and 2 losses.
