Two PKs lift Trappers above Mustangs

On the last regular season weekend the Mustangs traveled north to Powell WY and faced on of their bitter rivals the Trappers from Northwest College.  The previous match in Rock Springs was played to a 1 to 1 draw.  The Mustang were trying to get all their injured players back on the pitch and begin to again make a cohesive unit.

The action was fast and the play was good but neither squad was able to score in the first half.  This was the sixth time that these two squads had faced each other in a years time.  The Mustang's had 4 shots in the first half and the Trappers had five.

The second half looked very much like the first half until a penalty kick was called against the Mustangs in the 59th minute.  The Trappers converted on the kick ans took a 1 to zero lead.  Again the Mustang played and fought hard and looked like they might get back into the match when a second penalty kick was awarded to the Trappers in the 68th minute.  With the second penalty conversion the Trappers took a two to zero lead and the Mustangs had to play with 10 men after their starting keeper, Taylor Bell, was red carded.

Despite the deficit and playing a man down the Mustangs won control of the match and had many more chances in the last 20 minutes than did the full sided Trappers.  However attempts from Rico Mendez, Bernard Manuel and Vitor Nazareth were just not to be goals on the day.  After 90 minutes the score was Northwest 2 and Western 0.
