1st Spring Scrimmages vs U of U Club

On Saturday in Green River WY the 2017 Men's Soccer team for Western Wyoming Community College started their spring scrimmage season.

The Mustangs played a 90 minute scrimmage against the University of Utah Men's Club team.  Utah came out of the gates in an attacking mode and caught the Mustangs in a very sluggish beginning.  But after the first minutes of play the Mustangs played very well in the first half especially finding possession and creating chances going forward.  In goal for the Mustangs was Ben Kunz who had never played keeper at the collegiate level before Saturday.  Ben played very well making several saves on the day.  In spite of the good overall play of the Mustangs found themselves behind by 2 goals at the intermission.  Calvin Karangwa was injured near the end of the first half and did not return for the rest of the scrimmage.

The Mustangs continue their good run of play in the second half and Josh Abplanalp was able to sneak a ball past the Ute defense after a mistake from the back line of Utah.  With about 20 minutes to go the Mustangs had a few opportunities to tie the scrimmage including a header from Briston Lowell that hit the post.  However, on a counter attack with minutes left the Utes hit a nice shot from the right side of the box.  The late U of U goal moved the final score 3 to 1 in favor of the Utes.  Suiting up for the first time for the Mustangs as spring adds were Delaney Seilbach and Jaekang Lee.  Playing in a new position was Camen Gray who played very well for 90 minutes at center back.

Next on the spring scrimmage schedule are scrimmages for the Mustangs against the U of U club team and Westminster in Salt Lake City on Saturday April 8th.
