2 to 0 Win Puts WWCC Near Top of Region IX North

On Friday in Rock Springs the WWCC Mustangs kept the momentum going against the Gillette College Pronghorns.  The match was played at Rock Springs High and was a damp and cool day.

The Mustangs did not take long to get on the board as they scored in the 4th minute when a Ramon Aparicio pass got past the GC defense and Briston Lowell calmly slotted it past the Pronghorn keeper.  The Mustangs scored a second goal in the first half when Josh Abplanalp and Gary Lopez played a little give and go and the last pass cleared Lopez from the GC defense and then he placed the ball very nicely in the bottom right corner.  The score at the end of 45 minutes was WWCC 2 and GC 0.

The final 45 minutes had the Mustangs trying to find more possession while the Pronghorn did all they could to find a more or two.  At one point it appeared that Gillette would get on the board when they were awarded a penalty kick.  However, Joe Venhaus blocked the initial penalty kick and then blocked the put back by Gillette to maintain the shutout.  After 90 minutes of play they score remained WWCC 2 and Gillette 0.  The win moves the Mustang record to 5 - 5 - 1 overall and 3 - 1 - 1 in the Region IX North.

Mustang Man of the Match: Joe Venhaus for his 3rd shutout in 5 matches plus his double block on the penalty kick.
