Gunner Erickson - 2018 Recruit

Gunner Erickson a soon to be graduate from Roy High in Roy Utah has signed his National Letter of Intent to play soccer at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs WY.

Gunner played his high school soccer for the Royals of Roy High. Gunner was a four time letter winner for RHS Soccer.   Gunner played most of his senior season as a forward and most of his earlier years as a center back. Gunner scored 6 goals during his last year with RHS.  As a junior we received honors for his play as a defender.  In 2017 Erickson was named to the All Area Second Team and the All Region 5A First Team.  Gunner helped the Royals to the UHSAA playoffs during his junior and senior years.  Including a playoff win and a trip to the UHSAA 5A quarterfinals in 2018.  After his junior season Gunner was named RHS team's Defensive MVP.

Gunner played his comp soccer with the Rampage Soccer Club.  Some of the accolades that he and his teammates accrued were; 2017 Avalanche Invitational Champions, Utah Surf Invitational Champions and 2017 Dixie Cup Invitational Runners-up.  Erickson was a captain of both his high school and club teams.

Academics are another strong point for Gunner as he has been on the Honor Roll throughout his time at Roy High, grades 9 - 12.  His cumulative GPA is a 3.4.  Gunner pushed himself in his class selection and was enrolled in and passed seven AP courses.

Although Gunner was recruited to fill in a hole as a forward, we are not sure whether Gunner will get most of his playing time as an attacking player or a defender while wearing the Red and Black of Western.  Gunner will be a valuable player for either or possibly both sides of the ball as WWCC has graduated their starting two forwards and their starting two center backs.  We were impressed with not only his versatility as a player but his leadership skills and the type of person and student that he is.  Gunner showed that offensively he can play wide and also in the middle.  He has the speed to stretch the defense and the height to play with his back to goal.

Congratulations to Gunner and welcome to the Mustang Soccer Family and Tradition.  Here is to a successful two years on and off of the pitch.
