Western Opens Region IX North Play Against Gillette

On Saturday at Rock Springs Junior High the Mustangs opened up their Region IX North slate with a home match against the Gillette College Pronghorns.  Western is the defending Region IX North Champion.

The first half action had too much possession and run of play for the visiting Gillette College team.  The Pronghorns were rewarded for their play with goals in the 33rd and 39th minute of play.  Those two goals for Gillette were the only goals scored in the first half as the score at the break was GC 2 and WWCC 0.

Western's offense did a much better job in the second half of finding possession and chances on the GC goal.  Sadly again no goals were scored by WWCC marking the fourth match of the 2018 season in a row that the Mustangs were shutout.  The final score was Gillette 2 and Western 0.  The loss makes the Mustang record 0 - 4 - 0 and 0 - 1 - 0 in Region IX North play.

Mustang Man of the Match: Beamer Wilcken - for the 5 shots during the match, including a free kick that hit the crossbar.

Match Facts - Shots - WWCC 17, GC 15; Assists - WWCC 0, GC 2; Saves - WWCC 8, GC 7; Corner Kicks - WWCC 5, GC 4; Free Kicks - WWCC 6, GC 8; Cards - WWCC 2, GC 0.
