An Opportunity Slips through the Mustang's Hands

On Friday WWCC renewed their oldest rivalry when they played against the LCCC Golden Eagles in Rock Springs on the Tiger Turf at Rock Springs High School.  The scoring started from the get go in the match when Taylor Egbert scored his 8th goal of the season off of an assist from Steven Shelley.  The goal came in the 3rd minute of play.  LCCC answered the opening score with a score of their own in the first ten minutes to even the score.  The LCCC team scored their second goal of the match in the 15th minute to take a 2 - 1 lead.  This lead lastest 20 minutes as WWCC and LCCC felt each other out and looked to get past the other team's defense.  In the 36th minute LCCC scored when the ball was quickly sent back into play after a corner kick and a LCCC player was left all alone in front of the goal.  The match was 3 -1 in favor of LCCC after 45 minutes of play.
The second half did not have as much scoring but the action was still fast, physical and furious.  WWCC scored first in the second half when Steven Shelley received a nice ball and played a perfect pass to Greg Howard who beat the keeper to the right side of the goal.  The Howard goal off of Shelley's second assist brought the match score 3 - 2 in the 54th minute.  LCCC answered with a match insuring goal in the 58th minute scoring it from outside the 18 yard box and snoke it in the bottom corner.  WWCC played hard and had chances to get back on the scoreboard but chances from Jarom Stuart, Steven Shelley, Greg Howard and Bernard Manuel were all just inches away or saved by LCCC.  The final score of the match was 4 -2 for LCCC.  The loss drops WWCC to a record of 4 wins, 2 losses and 0 - 1 - 0 in Region IX play.
