The Region IX Rivalry between the WWCC Mustangs and the Northeastern Junior College Plainsmen was renewed on Saturday in Sterling CO. The Plainsmen were the first team to notch a goal when they knocked the ball past the Mustang defenders and into the WWCC goal. The NJC goal was in the 17th minute of the match. The Mustangs did not panic being behind on the road and just started to implement the game plan. The first WWCC goal was scored by Taylor Egbert who hit a 25 yard right footed shot in the 26th minute. The Egbert goal was assisted by Nate Cutler. The second Mustang goal was in the 41st minute when Jared Jess passed a square ball to Greg Howard who put it away. The Howard goal increased the lead to 2 - 1 in favor of the Mustangs. WWCC scored again quickly in the 42nd minute on a very similar play but this time the assist was Greg Howard and the finish was Jarom Stuart. The half time score was 3 - 1 in favor of WWCC.
The second half was another half when the Mustangs were able to work on possession and play lots of reserve players in a Region match. WWCC was the only team to score in the second half when in the 71st minute Jarom Stuart collected a through ball from Taylor Egbert and Stuart easily beat the NJC goalie. The WWCC defense again played well with few chances for the opposition in a 90 minute match. The win raises the WWCC record to 8 - 5 - 0 and 3 - 3 - 0 in Region IX in sole possession of 4th place half way through the Region regular season.
