Western Wyoming played on Saturday at Salt Lake Community College. This is the second time that the Mustangs played against the Bruins this season, the first being a draw in a mid-August scrimmage in Rock Springs.
This time around the Bruins struck first in the 38th minute after a penetrating run and a rolling ball found its way past the keeper and defense. The Mustangs played the first half very slow with lots of bumps and bruises from the match the day before. Thanks to some great individual effort the Mustangs tied the match in the 41st minute. Jesse Cardenas bettered four SLCC defenders and scored a goal, he was assisted by Jose Rincon. At the half the two teams were tied 1 - 1.
The Mustangs played a much better second half scoring in the 49th minute from a back post send from Grayson Barnes and a headed goal from Alan Wendlandt. SLCC did not waste too much time to tie up the match when a SLCC attacker was fouled in the penalty area and converted the penalty shot in the 53rd minute. In the 76th minute Jose Rincon blasted a shot towards the Bruin goal that took a deflection but still was good enough to find the back of the net. The Rincon goal was assisted by Jesse Cardenas. Western was able to control the last quarter of the match and maintain the lead and secure the victory. The win brings the Mustang record to 2 - 0 - 2.
Mustang Man of the Match: Jesse Cardenas - for his goal and assist and his change of momentum in the match after scoring the tying goal against 4 SLCC players.
