Western Sweeps OJC for 1st Time in Program History

On Saturday night in La Junta CO the co-leaders in the Region IX North (Western Wyoming) and the co-leaders in Region IX South (Otero Junior College) played a great NJCAA Soccer match.

The Otero Rattlers played very quick and precise in the opening moments and the Mustangs absorbed and deflected their attack.  By the end of the first half WWCC and OJC were playing very even with a 0 - 0 first half score.

In the second stanza the match the the scoring took off.  Otero opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute to take a 1 - 0 lead.  The Mustangs fired back with two goals in a 3 minute span.  First Jesse Cardenas scored in the 55th minute assisted by Jose Rincon and Jose Rincon scored in the 58th minute unassisted but set up by an outstanding pass from Riley Gibson.  The score after an hour was Mustangs 2, Rattlers 1.  Just when it seemed the match was controlled by WWCC, Otero scored in the 79th minute off of free kick to even up the match.  Not to be outdone Jose Rincon scored his brace in the 83rd minute off of a Riley Gibson assist.  The Mustang defense held strong the rest of the match.  This marks the first time in Western history that they have swept the OJC team.  It also improves the Western record to 11 - 3 - 3 on the season.

Mustang Man of the Match:  Riley Gibson - awesome job at starting and playing Center Attacking Mid
