Final Spring Scrimmages for 2016 Mustangs

On Saturday April 30th in Utah the 2016 Spring Mustang team played ended their spring scrimmage season while playing at Ogden UT versus Weber State Club and at Orem UT versus Utah Valley Club team.

The first scrimmage was against Weber State and the Wildcats got off to a good start with defensive and goal keeping errors by the Mustangs.  The early 2 - 0 lead for WSU motivated the Mustangs to play better and they controlled the pace and possession of the half for the last half an hour.  WWCC got on the board when a Jose Rincon pass found Riley Gibson who calmly put it over the keeper into the net.  The halftime score was 2 -1 in favor of the Wildcats.  The second half was tough on the Mustangs who started playing well until another WSU goal was scored about 10 minutes into the half.  This goal deflated the Mustangs and the Wildcats poured it on scoring four more goals.  The final score of the scrimmage was 7 - 1 in favor of the home team Weber State.

Later on in the day the Mustangs traveled to Orem UT and squared off against the Utah Valley Club team.  This was the first meeting between the teams in nearly a decade.  Western cut down on their errors on the back line and with their keepers and kept the Wolverines off of the scoreboard throughout the 90 minute scrimmage.  A first half goal was scored by Alan Wendlandt after he stole the ball from a UVU defender and scored his first spring goal of his career.  In the second half Western continued it's run of great play controlling much of the possession and style of play.  Riley Gibson scored his second goal of the day when Justin Gordon sent a nicely weighted and timed ball to Gibson.  The score after 90 minutes in Orem was 2 - 0 for Western.  Their first victory over the UVU Club team in WWCC history.

The sophomores that suited up in the Red, Black and White for the last time were; Landon Jacobsen (Lehi UT), Adam Stocks (Preston ID), Jose Rincon (Logan UT), Nate Cutler (Layton UT), Alan Wendlandt (Rock Springs WY), Justin Gordon (Billings MT), Austin Pinter (Evanston WY), Riley Gibson (Lehi UT), Carsen Tinker (Bountiful UT), Alejandro Bermudez (Venezuela) and Piero Levano (Peru).  We wish the departing players best of luck on future endeavors and congrats on your playing career and graduation from Western Wyoming Community College.
