Another Late Come From Behind Victory at Air Force Prep

On Thursday in Colorado Springs CO the Western Mustangs squared off against the Air Force Prep School Huskies.  Air Force Prep and WWCC have played several times in the history of their programs but not many times in the last 4 or 5 years.

Western still in the same defensive mode as they played against SLCC and Snow College did not show much against the Huskies in the first half.  Giving up too much of the midfield and allowing too many chances in front of the WWCC goal.  Right before halftime Air Force Prep found a shot that floated to the back corner over the WWCC defense and keeper Benji Ayala.  The halftime score was AFP 1 - WWCC 0.

After a spirited halftime talk the changes were drastic on the field and WWCC played with much more offensive punch and prowess.  However, with just 10 minutes remaining in the match Western found itself still trailing.  In the 81st minute Western earned a corner kick and Ty Nielsen accurately found Tanner Trumble's head.  The headed ball from Trumble slipped past the Air Force Prep keeper to tie the match with 9 minutes remaining.  The Mustangs were not satisfied with the tie and six minutes later Danny Becerra found room up the Huskie's right side and slotted a pass into the box that found Carlos Gonzalez.  Carlos calmly kicked it into the back of the net for a 2 to 1 lead for Western with just 4 minutes remaining.  The Mustangs were able to keep the lead for the victory and  improve to 4 - 2 - 1 on the season.

Mustang Man of the Match:  Carlos Gonzalez - for the late game winning goal.
