Mustangs Fall in a great battle with Dakota County Technical College

In a very spirited match, especially for opening weekend the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs and the Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights played against each other for the first time.  Both of these squads have received votes in both the NJCAA poll and the NSCAA poll.
Dakota County was the aggressor and had control of the match most of the first 15 minutes.  The Western defense was able to absorb their pressure though.  Just when it seemed that Western was taking control of the match the Blue Knights scored in the 21st minute.  The Mustangs continued to play hard and try to find possession.  The Mustang pressure caused a poor pass from the DCTC defense which Rico Mendez stole, he dribbled it to the end line and found a wide open Bernard Manuel who scored his 4th goal of the weekend.  It appeared the match would go into the half tied but DCTC scored their second goal in the 42nd minute in almost identical fashion as the first.  The score at the half was 2 - 1 in favor of DCTC.
In the second half the Mustangs played better soccer despite a very chippy match between these two Region champs from 2012.  Sadly the next goal was scored by DCTC in the 62nd minute to take a 3 - 1 lead.  The Mustangs cut the lead in half in the 78th minute when Adrian Sanchez scored a goal after a Rico Mendez free kick found him on the back post.  The Mustangs ferociously fought for that final goal and had some opportunities but never a great shot on frame in the final 10 minutes.  It was a great early season test for the Mustangs and should be a learning opportunity for the team to get better.  This brings the WWCC record for 2013 to 1 - 1 0.
