On a very cold Friday on the Tiger Turf at Rock Springs High the Mustangs from Western Wyoming and the Generals from Sheridan College faced off for the first time as Region IX opponents. The two teams played many times as club teams and while WWCC was a varsity team and Sheridan was still a club team. Both teams started off having a hard time putting classes together and making very many dangerous opportunities. The first goal came in the 32 minute when Vitor Nazareth was fouled in the box and converted on the penalty kick. The action did pick up after the goal but no other goal was scored in the first 45 minutes and the Mustangs took a 1 - 0 lead into the intermission.
The second goal of the match was another Mustang goal as WWCC received a free kick around 30 yards from goal. Bernard Manuel stepped up to the kick and scored a nicely placed left footed shot in the 62nd minute. The match got interesting in the 68th minute when the Generals got on the board after some nice passing down the Mustang right side and a near perfect finish from the Sheridan College player. Gratefully for the Mustangs the strung together several great passes including the assists from Devian Kurete and Rico Mendez while DJ Searcy calmly sank the little chipped shot later in the 68th minute to grow the WWCC lead to 3 - 1. Neither team was able to make anymore chances in the final minutes and the Mustangs hung on for a well deserved 3 - 1 victory. The win brings the overall Mustang record to 7 - 4 - 0 and 3 - 2 - 0 in Region IX play. 
Mustang Man of the Match –Nathan Pierce - Thor played well as the center defensive mid, complete with a couple of good long range shots.
