From the get go of the match the Mustangs did a good job of controlling the majority of the possession but now allowing Sheridan to counter attack. The Sheridan counter attacks are what hurt Western in the first match up. Constant pressure on Sheridan and their back line paid off when Javier Arvayo stole a back pass and punched it in past the Sheridan keeper in the 36th minute. The score did not change again in the 1st half, the score at the break was WWCC 1 and Sheridan 0.
In the second half the Generals came out of their defensive shell but Western was up for whatever the Generals could through at the Mustangs. Matthew Ochoa, Zac Roper, Danny Becerra, Mike Wolken and Joe Venhaus did well to earn another shutout in the NJCAA Region IX North and their fourth shutout on the season. Jesse Lopez scored late in the match, 89th minute, from a Colton Harrison assist. Jesse's goal was a screamer that he hit from the top of the box that went over the keeper's hand and under the bar for an exclamation point on the Western Wyoming win. The 2017 overall record is now 6 - 6 - 1 and the Mustangs take a commanding lead in Region IX North with a 4 - 1 - 1 record.
